課程概述

You know that human behavior is the cause of environmental problems including climate change. You know that no change in human behavior will lead us to environmental catastrophe. Still, humans have not been successful in changing their behavior for sustainability. Why? This is the key question to be addressed in this course.

I propose one potential answer to this question, i.e., our mainstream culture prevents us from changing our behavior. This course first examines the basic concepts of existing mainstream approaches. This course then proposes an alternative approach that I name ‘the cultural approach’. The cultural approach aims to rewrite our cultural script for greater sustainability. You will eventually learn to see the sustainability problems and your own research topic from a different perspective.

課程目標
Students learn how to analyze why humans have been failing in achieving sustainability, and how they can move forward using different approaches complementary.
課程要求
Students need to read assigned materials, participate in classroom discussion, make presentations, and report their findings.
